Green Energy and Engineering Day at SWC

St. Philip’s College celebrated the 2020 National Engineering Week by hosting its annual Green Energy and Engineering Day on Friday, February 14, 2020. Students, grades 5-12, gathered in the Center for Excellence for Science in Building 1 on the college’s Southwest Campus to participated in the yearly event that provides a venue for STEM student clubs to showcase their projects.
5-12 graders had the opportunity to engage in hands-on engineering activities with students from Southwest High School, Legacy High School, South San High School and Harlandale STEM Early College High School.
High school and college engineering student teams exhibited their projects in a show and tell style presentation. High school students had the opportunity to tour the college’s manufacturing technology and power generation laboratories.
The Center of Excellence for Science shares a 45,000 square facility with the Center of Excellence for Mathematics at the SWC. The facility is a learning center offering both formal and informal STEM education to its college students, educators and community.
During the fall and spring semesters, community outreach events are held and the facility provides courses in Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Applied Sciences. In the summer semesters, STEM outreach and professional development programs are offered.
