Best of all, the college is ranked high nationally for its popular core course, meaning entry-level artists can begin strong there with confidence, and non-artists can rest assured they completed a course of depth.

Jennifer Agricola-Mojica is both the college’s art program coordinator and one of the front line, online faculty members for the college’s nationally rated core course. More than 200 students are enrolled in classes through the program with faculty members Agricola-Mojica, Justin Schneider and Guadalupe Mendoza Rodriguez.

The college’s SPS Arts 1301 online courses use instructional materials that provide students with required materials already uploaded in their courses on the first day of class. While students have access to the eTextbook; interactive media; videos about artists, artist processes, and works of art; a bevy of architectural panoramas allow students to virtually visit places and spaces around the world from Zimbabwe to France to Peru. The course provides a learning environment with academic rigor that uses tests, quizzes, discussions and papers that challenge student understanding and interpretation of art processes that span from prehistoric to contemporary art practices, Agricola-Mojica explained.

“Students have an opportunity to apply their new wealth of knowledge by visiting their local art museums and critiquing artwork from master artists. The platform meets students where they are today, providing them easy access to eTextbook, quizzes, tests and videos by using their smart phones and computers. We’d definitely like to see more students enrolled on our program. We offer a popular core course and can teach far more than our current enrollment of 200-plus,” said Agricola-Mojica. “Students familiar with online learning will be happy to know we are accessed through Pearson's Revel http://www.pearsonhighered.com/revel/index.html,” Agricola-Mojica said.
